Nadja Lubiw-Hazard reads 18 November!

Announcing our second Fall event for our 2022-23 season! 

Nadja Lubiw-Hazard will be reading for us on Friday 18 November at 4:30pm in SJ2 1002.

Nadja is a Toronto-based writer and a veterinarian.  Her work has been published in Understorey, Room, Canthius, The Fiddlehead, The Dalhousie Review, The New Quarterly, and more; her first novel, The Nap-Away Motel, was published in 2019. She is the recent recipient of the Siskiyou Prize for New Environmental Literature. She is a life-long animal-lover and long-time vegan, and her writing often explores themes related to the natural world.

Manahil Bandukwala reads 21 October!

 We are absolutely thrilled to announce our first reading of this season -- the first season in a couple of years for The Reading Series at St. Jerome's! 

Our theme for this year is Coming Back/Home. And what better way to kick it off than to welcome an author who is one of our own: an alumna of UWaterloo who published her first book of poems with Brick last Septmber.

Manahil Bandukwala will be reading for us on Friday 21 October at 4:30pm in SJ2 1002.

Manahil Bandukwala is a writer and visual artist originally from Pakistan and now settled in Canada. In 2021, she was shortlisted for the bpNichol Chapbook Award. She works as Coordinating Editor for Arc Poetry Magazine, and is Digital Content Editor for Canthius. She is a member of Ottawa-based collaborative writing group VII. Her project Reth aur Reghistan is a multidisciplinary exploration of folklore from Pakistan interpreted through poetry and sculpture. She holds an MA in English from the University of Waterloo. Her debut poetry collection is MONUMENT (Brick Books). 

 

2022-23 Series: Coming Back/Home

 Hello everyone -- it's good to be back!

After a two-year hiatus we're pleased to be cooking up a great series of events for this year. Plans are still in progress, but we can say for sure that, as part of our Coming Back/Home theme, our own wonderful Claire Tacon will be reading for us in Winter term. 

And this Fall term Manahil Bandukwala will be reading for us on 21 October at 4:30! Details to come. We're thrilled to be helping her celebrate the publication of her debut poetry collection, Monument, from Brick Books.

The Reading Series in 2020-2021

 Hello everyone!

Thanks for your support and interest of the Reading Series. Given the difficulties in hosting public events these days, we have decided to put our series on pause for a while. We are waiting to see what might or might not be possible for us to do as time goes on. Stay tuned! And stay well. 

Alicia Elliott reads 4 March!

We're thrilled to welcome Alicia Elliott to cap off our Winter term readings!

 Please join us on Wednesday 4 March at 3:30pm in SJ2 1004.

The opening act will be Joanne Tiotangco Magbitang.

Alicia Elliott is a Tuscarora writer living in Brantford, Ontario. She has written for Globe and Mail, CBC, Hazlitt and many others. She’s had essays nominated for National Magazine Awards for three straight years, winning Gold in 2017, and her short fiction was selected for Best American Short Stories 2018, Best Canadian Stories 2018, and Journey Prize Stories 30. She was chosen by Tanya Talaga as the 2018 recipient of the RBC Taylor Emerging Writer Award. Her first book, A Mind Spread Out On The Ground, is a national bestseller.
